Me and My Shadow

This is one of my Mom’s favorite dog cartoons. She says it reminds her of the time when she first brought me home from the dog shelter. You see, I had severe separation anxiety back then. Whenever my Mom would leave for work, I’d have a major panic attack. This continued for about the next four months (my Mom even received an eviction threat because the neighbors complained about my barking). Fortunately, as I settled into my life with my Mom and grew more comfortable and secure, my panic attacks lessened and now I don’t have them quite as often.

Where’s the Ball?

I’m not really sure where the ball is sometimes…. Last night at flyball practice, I did very well with close up box work, but as I had to go over more jumps to reach the ball, I confess, I got a little distracted. You see, there were these yummy treats on the floor that I just *had* to eat and it made me forget all about the jumps, the ball and flyball in general.. My Mom says we’re gonna need to work on my attention span..

My Family Tree

Here’s one of the few baby photos my Mom has of me – snapped just a few days after she adopted me from the shelter. I originally hail from Knoxville, TN and lived there with my first family until they brought me to the shelter when they moved away. I was only there for a few days and then I was brought to DC by another rescue group so that I could find a happy home – which I did! I don’t remember my parents much – but one of them must have been a border collie because I love to to track and herd everything!

My Beauty Secrets

Hardly a day goes by without someone commenting on my unique markings (called blue merle) or my plume like tail. Here’s my secret to keeping up my looks: Whenever I desire a refreshing soak, I simply scratch a little and my Mom carries me right over to the tub for a nice warm bath. Then we go out for a walk and I dry off my coat by rolling around in the grass. I highly recommend it – gives off a pleasant earthly sent! And if you’re wondering about my bright eyes – it’s all due to a steady diet of bird seed shells left beneath my brother Cairo’s cage. Those are all my secrets I’m willing to divulge for now – stay tuned for more!

What’s a Flyball Tug Toy?

I asked the very same question a few weeks ago when I overhead my Mom and the leader of the flyball team talking about ways to help me learn flyball. Later on, as I watched my Mom search the internet, I discovered that a tug toy is a rope with a tennis ball attached to it. She found a couple good sites to buy flyball equipment: sitstay.com and cleanrun.com. Hmm.. I wonder if she ordered any treats for me along with the boring equipment…
